Job summary

YMCA Camp Classen, nestled in the Arbuckle Mountains of southern Oklahoma, seeks enthusiastic Outdoor Education Program Instructors to guide 5th and 6th grade students from Oklahoma and North Texas.

You will lead exploratory hikes, teach wilderness living skills, and run hands-on activities like fire making, habitats, atlatls, team building, tomahawks, and more, with training provided.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• Strong communication skills.
• Experience teaching or leading elementary or middle school youth.
• Good judgment, flexibility, and ability to work independently.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
• Ability to work and live in a rural community.
• Ability to lead hikes and outdoor activities.
• Ability to relate to individuals and groups warmly.
• Willingness to take on varied tasks supporting the program.
• Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Guide 5th & 6th-grade students from Oklahoma and North Texas on outdoor activities.
• Lead exploratory hikes and teach wilderness living skills.
• Engage students in hands-on activities like fire making, habitats, atlatls, team building, tomahawks.
• Provide instruction in outdoor education and foster love for nature.
• Participate in training and certification opportunities; safety first.
