Job summary

Safe Harbor Kittery Point is expanding our marine service team and seeking an experienced Outboard Technician to join our crew. You will work on outboard engines, troubleshoot, repair, and repower vessels ranging from 18' to +50', with dealers for Yamaha, Suzuki, and Mercury engines.

Applicants should have background in outboard maintenance, be able to test and diagnose mechanical systems, and bring own tools. ABYC certifications and factory training are preferred.

Qualifications

  • 5 years’ experience preferred in outboard repair and maintenance.
  • ABYC certifications preferred.
  • Must possess own tools and be able to operate with a toolbox on site.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair boats of all kinds.
  • Extensive knowledge of outboard repair, maintenance and repowers.
  • Factory training preferred.
  • Carry out decommissioning and commissioning of engine systems.
  • Understand marine electrical and plumbing components; test, repair, and replace as needed.
  • Generate budgeted time and material estimates.
  • Availability to work overtime to meet deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.

Safe Harbor Kittery Point is expanding our facilities by adding four additional mechanical bays and 40,000 sqft of indoor heated storage. We are seeking an experienced Outboard Technician to join our team. Applicant’s desired background to include outboard engine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and repowers, as well as a familiarity with related vessel systems. Safe Harbor Kittery Point has two waterfront facilities in Kittery and Eliot, Maine that service, repair, and store recreational and commercial vessels, power and sail, ranging from 18' to +50'. We are dealers for Yamaha, Suzuki, and Mercury engines. OEM training opportunities are available and encouraged.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Inspect, maintain, and repair boats of all kinds

  • Extensive knowledge of Outboard repair, maintenance and repowers

  • Factory training preferred

  • Basic decommissioning and commissioning of all engine and mechanical systems

  • General understanding of marine electrical and plumbing components and ability to test, repair, and replace systems

  • Ability to generate budgeted time and material estimates

  • Must possess own tools

  • Availability to work overtime in order to meet deadlines

  • Other duties as assigned by Manager


Safety and Environmental Responsibilities


  • Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training.

  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area.

  • Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately.


Technical and Physical Requirements


  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Technical school training preferred

  • 5 years’ experience preferred

  • ABYC and/or manufacturer certifications preferred

  • Ability to ascend and descend a ladder

  • Must carry own tools

  • Ability to work in confined spaces

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds

  • Experience with both gas and diesel engines preferred
