Description

Safe Harbor Kittery Point has two waterfront facilities in Kittery and Eliot, Maine that service, repair and store power and sailing vessels ranging from 18' to +50'. We are looking for an experienced Yard Hand / Equipment Operator to join our team. The Yard Hand / Equipment Operator is responsible for moving, hauling, and launching all vessels on location, as well as assisting with carrying out tasks required to successfully achieve the service department objectives. The successful candidate would be offered the opportunity to acquire additional skill sets within the boatyard and marina operations. Basic boat handling skills are required; ability to operate power and sail vessels is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment including, but not limited to: forklift, travelift, and hydraulic trailer to move, h aul, and launch boats
  • Be able to operate machinery efficiently, effectively and demonstrate safe handling of vessels
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair equipment to ensure operational
  • Perform general boat maintenance and service work including, but not limited to: pressure washing, buffing & waxing, bottom painting, zinc replacement, etc.
  • Grounds/facilities maintenance and marina cleanliness
  • Availability to work overtime when required
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisor & assist fellow crewmembers as needed
Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
  • Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area
  • Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately
Technical and Physical Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 1-2 years’ relevant experience preferred
  • Forklift experience preferred
  • Ability to ascend and descend a ladder
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Must possess a valid drivers’ license
