Overview

Ulteig is seeking qualified candidates for the position of OT Network & Systems Administrator III in the Automation, Integration, and System Protection (AISP) Department. The role designs, programs, tests, and troubleshoots network equipment and servers to support client needs, with primary focus on Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and data historization in the renewable power and water industries. The role includes mentoring less experienced engineers and providing business development support.

What You'll Do
  • Design network infrastructure and make recommendations to support client needs. Design tasks typically include:
    • Create Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer 3 drawings to depict the network
    • Create an IP address spreadsheet for all devices on the network
    • Define firewall rules to facilitate secure communication between devices
    • Configure firewalls, switches, and other devices per the designs
    • Field Support
  • Configure, test, and troubleshoot network equipment using industry best practices for secure networks, including:
    • Configure firewalls to allow only desired traffic between devices (typical vendors: Fortinet, Cisco, Palo Alto)
    • Coordinate and troubleshoot VPN tunnels to allow remote traffic
    • Configure network switches (typical vendors: Cisco, SEL, Antaira)
    • Support engineers and clients with communication issues as they arise
  • Configure client servers under the supervision of a Lead Administrator, including:
    • Installation of operating systems (Windows and Linux)
    • Installation of SCADA applications (Ignition and others)
    • Installation of historian databases (Microsoft SQL, MySQL, MariaDB)
    • Configuration of Virtual Machines
    • Configure Network Attached Storage (NAS) or recovery solutions
  • Take ownership of quality and participate in QC checks and factory acceptance tests of designs and configurations
  • Foster strong client relationships, demonstrating responsiveness within the organization and externally, with regular client engagement
  • Prepare reports and correspondence concerning the direction of assigned projects
What We Expect from You
  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or combination of education and experience in lieu of degree with relevant industry experience along with related professional network certifications (CCNP, Palo Alto PCNA, etc.)
  • The position is remote in nature with office space available in some areas if desired. Occasional travel to local panel shops and remote work sites is required (less than 15%)
  • Solid understanding of the OSI model
  • Strong communication skills required to maintain positive client relationships
  • Able to work closely and effectively with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects
  • Attention to detail and strong time management skills
  • Hands-on experience with design, implementation, and maintenance of all aspects of network environments including routers, firewalls, switching and wireless
  • Proficient understanding of setting up or overseeing physical or virtual servers, with a preference for experience in Hyper Converged Solutions or alternative redundant server configurations (such as VMware VSAN and others)
It Is a Plus If You Have
  • Understanding and experience with NERC CIP standards and how the control environment impacts both the business and IT/OT processes and systems
  • Experience working in the electric utility industry or other industrial network environments with exposure to SCADA devices or protective relays
  • Basic understanding of multiple communication protocols (DNP/Modbus/IEC61850/TCP/UDP) and physical communication media (RS232, RS485, copper, fiber, etc.)
  • Experience with Cisco, SEL, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Antaira, Sierra Wireless, DELL products
  • Experience in Network security, Vulnerability management, Asset management, Network security architecture and Network hardening
  • Experience with Wireshark, Linux, Cisco CLI, VMware, Visio, PuTTY, SolarWinds
