THIS IS AN INTERNAL POSTINGONLY CURRENT SCDPS EMPLOYEES WHO APPLY WILL BE CONSIDERED.
THIS POSITION IS ASSIGNED TO THE OFFICE OF SUPPORT SERVICES.
This role serves as the DPS Fleet Manager, overseeing fleet personnel, operations, purchasing, planning, and vehicle rotations. The manager is responsible for managing OSS fleet functions including service, vehicle purchasing, production, rotations, inventory control, surplus, and administrative tasks related to the fleet. Reporting directly to the Captain of Law Enforcement Logistics and Fleet, and under the guidance of the Director of Support Services, the manager assists division leadership in planning, coordination, and implementation of processes and procedures. The manager also assumes all duties in the absence of division leadership.


  1. Fleet Planning and Management: Responsible for planning, procurement, and deployment of DPS vehicles and equipment to divisions and custodians. Manages fleet teams to ensure proper execution of the DPS Vehicle Replacement Model.
  2. Inventory and Surplus Control: Oversees inventory management and surplus procedures for fleet-related items, ensuring proper assignment and distribution, maintaining accurate records, and monitoring consumption and failure rates.
  3. Personnel Supervision: Directly supervises fleet team leads and personnel, providing support, training, performance feedback, and development opportunities.
  4. Operational Oversight: Manages daily fleet operations, schedules, personnel, and work priorities, including demand work, promotions, hiring, transfers, and restructuring.
  5. Administrative Duties: Handles vehicle receiving, registration, fuel cards, and temporary assignments, coordinating with divisions and administrative bodies.
  6. Law Enforcement Duties: Enforces laws, responds to civil unrest and disasters, guides law enforcement personnel, and ensures proper use and maintenance of uniforms, equipment, and sensitive items. Manages public funds, equipment, and evidence responsibly.

Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree and experience supervising law enforcement personnel at a public agency.
Additional Requirements:
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
  • Minimum of six months of service as a SCDPS Sergeant or First Sergeant.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Valid SC Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer certifications and applicable DPS certifications.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Familiarity with warehouse processes.
  • Knowledge of agency policies, asset management, procurement, and fiscal responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Experience managing administrative functions related to fleet operations.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Supervisory skills for team leads and program services.
  • Ability to use independent judgment, discretion, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Availability to respond to critical incidents outside of normal hours as needed.
