TDS Telecommunications LLC is hiring for an OSP Line Maintenance & Construction II role near North Anson, Maine. The position involves operating trenchers, backhoes, and plows to install and repair outdoor cable facilities while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities include pole work, cable splicing, fault testing, and maintaining GIS/maps. A valid driver’s license is required, and CDL training may be provided; a sign-on bonus is offered.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of construction experience using equipment such as a trencher, plow, or backhoe (or military service)
• 1+ years of telecommunications outside plant experience
• Must follow attendance guidelines and be eligible for DOT requirements
• Valid driver’s license required; Class A CDL preferred (TDS will train)

Responsibilities

• Perform general line maintenance in varying weather with safety fundamentals.
• Replaces and realigns poles; conducts cable installations and repairs.
• Operates construction and excavating equipment to install and maintain outside plant facilities.
• Test, troubleshoot, and restore fiber optic, copper, and coax lines as needed.

Position Overview

The OSP Line Maintenance & Construction II performs general labor associated with outside plant line maintenance. The role requires operation of construction equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, end loaders, and plows to place cable facilities, as well as installation, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of aerial and underground cable facilities. Work is performed in accordance with state and local regulations, and the selected employee must reside within a 60‑minute driving distance of the North Anson, Maine warehouse (2 Elm Street – North Anson, Maine 04958). This position is eligible for a $1,000 sign‑on bonus (payout terms apply).

Responsibilities

• Performs general line maintenance in various weather conditions while utilizing safety fundamentals.
• Completes fallen tree removals from aerial plant, including right‑of‑way tree trimming as needed.
• Completes DSA structure support repairs (wooden, metal decking).
• Replaces broken, sets new, and realigns poles as needed – includes reattach­ing all cables.
• Performs pole transfers per designated work order requests.
• Performs all necessary line repairs – strand, lashing wire, guy wires, anchor placing, proper slack placement, etc.
• Operates construction and other excavating equipment to construct, maintain, and repair outside plant cable facilities.
• Performs the maintenance, repairs, and placement of new (copper, fiber, coax) aerial and buried cable according to maps, staking sheets and locate markings.
• Reviews and updates GIS, maps, addresses, and as‑builds.
• Sets peds, vaults, and handholes along with marking/labeling fiber optic, copper/coax facilities.
• Installs, troubleshoots, tests, splices, repairs, and maintains fiber optic, copper, and coax facilities.
• Identifies the location of defective cable using various test equipment and repairs buried, aerial, underground, and/or customer cable.
• Locates cable and fiber in response to customer requests and/or construction needs.
• Performs cable fault acceptance tests on newly constructed facilities.
• Ensures worksite and landscape is fully restored after project completion.
• Proficiently operates all test equipment associated with outside plant facilities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Trains and monitors personnel as directed by supervisor or team lead.

Required Qualifications

• 1+ years of construction experience utilizing equipment such as a trencher, plow, or backhoe – or current or prior military service with honorable discharge.
• 1+ years of telecommunications outside plant experience.
• Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and remain eligible for DOT requirements.

Other Qualifications

• Understanding of telecommunication products and services.
• Must have the ability to obtain a Class A CDL. A current CDL is preferred at hire; TDS will train and certify eligible associates through its in‑house CDL certification program after hire.
• Upon hire, must successfully pass all components of the Safety Training course curriculum.
• Upon hire, must successfully complete customer‑specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
• Proven organizational skills and ability to multi‑task.
• Physical requirements may vary: ability to dig, lift, and climb.
• Requires being available for on‑call/standby responsibilities and may require occasional travel.
• Must be willing to work overtime as needed and may be required to work various/swing shifts as business needs dictate.
• Must be able to operate vehicles with manual transmissions.

Pay Range
