Job Summary

The Fiber Design Organization manages Lightpath's fiber network, including usage, maintenance, and documentation. The OSP Field Fiber Engineer supports pre-sales engineering, customer service installation, maintenance, asset management within our GIS database, fiber trace analysis, vendor management, customer requests, and departmental needs. Employees will handle complex projects, develop innovative solutions, and mentor less experienced team members, reporting to the Fiber Design & Construction organization.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and utilize Lightpath's Fiber Network effectively.
  • Design fiber routes for services like Dark Fiber, Ethernet, SD-WAN, WDM, DIA, Small Cell, and FTT.
  • Develop creative solutions using Lightpath assets to meet customer needs, considering distance, diversity, and routing requirements.
  • Lead training sessions to enhance team knowledge of industry practices.
  • Mentor peers on work practices and project specifics.
  • Research databases and records for network design, fiber optimization, and customer communication.
  • Create outputs detailing fiber paths and splicing work for installations, relocations, or restorations.
  • Maintain accurate physical asset records in our GIS database.
  • Support in-field customer maintenance and repair activities.
  • Analyze fiber trace data to support service delivery and maintenance.
  • Keep inventory and customer service records updated in our GIS database.
  • Establish professional communication with internal and external customers and vendors.
  • Organize work efficiently to maximize productivity.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of telecom fiber network experience, preferably in construction or design; a 4-year Engineering degree is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and self-motivate.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional communication.
  • Experience in training and mentoring team members.
  • Proficiency with GIS-based data management systems.
  • Experience with Google Earth and kmz file management.
  • Knowledge of fiber construction practices.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including MS Visio; Salesforce and AutoCAD experience are pluses.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills with the ability to prioritize.
