Job summary

JSI invites you to join our team as an OSP Designer II on the Fiber Design & Implementation team in our Charlotte, NC office where you'll contribute to advancing broadband and telecommunications initiatives that expand connectivity and drive digital inclusion.

As an OSP Designer II, you will plan, design, document, and permit proposed new outside plant FTTP build-outs, delivering high-quality deliverables for buried, underground, and aerial fiber applications.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• 3+ years of telecom engineering and design experience.
• Working knowledge of GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS/Google Earth).
• Working knowledge of CAD-based software (AutoCAD).
• Ability to read maps, drawings, and diagrams for Telecom/FFTx OSP construction.
• Intermediate skills in MS Office, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Highly organized, self-starter, and detail-oriented.
• Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.
• Superior time management and attention to detail.
• A post-secondary degree in engineering, GIS, or related field is desired (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Reads and understands maps, drawings, and diagrams for Telecom/FFTx OSP construction.
• Creates and reviews fiber assignments (schematics), high- and low-level designs.
• Communicates with project managers, permitting team, and field personnel to deliver accurate deliverables on time.
• Continually improves job tasks, processes, and technical knowledge.
• Completes other tasks as assigned by management.

Position Overview

As an OSP Designer II on the Fiber Design & Implementation team, you will be responsible for planning, designing, documenting, and permitting proposed new outside plant FTTx build-outs. This role will work as a member of the Fiber Design & Implementation team to produce high-quality deliverables for buried, underground, and aerial fiber applications.

Responsibilities

• Reads and understands maps, drawings, and diagrams for Telecom/FFTx OSP construction.


• Creates and reviews fiber assignments (schematics), high-level designs, and low-level designs.


• Communicates with project managers, permitting team, and field personnel to produce accurate deliverables in accordance with deadlines, client expectations, and JSI standards.


• Continuously improves job-related tasks and processes, technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.


• Completes other tasks as assigned by manager/supervisor.

Required Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.


• 3+ years of experience in telecom engineering and design is required.


• Working knowledge of GIS, including ArcGIS/QGIS/Google Earth, etc.


• Working knowledge of AutoCAD or other CAD-based software.


• Ability to read and understand maps, drawings, and diagrams for Telecom/FFTx OSP construction.


• Must possess intermediate skills in basic programs like Microsoft Office, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.


• Highly organized, self-starter, and detail-oriented.


• Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.


• Superior time management and strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

• A post-secondary degree in engineering, GIS, or a related field is desired.
