Job description

Lumos is looking for a full-time OSP Construction Project Engineer! If you are an experienced telecom construction professional, excited for a fast‑paced environment, and ready to recommend process changes that harness our technology, we want to hear from you.

Our OSP Construction Project Engineers build relationships with communities and contractor partners to facilitate the Outside Plant (OSP) construction and installation of our network within a specific market. This role requires frequent on‑site presence and direct accountability for overseeing line crews, splicers, and subcontractor crews to ensure safe, on‑time completion in alignment with CAPEX budget parameters.

Essential Functions
  • Build and maintain relationships with local subcontractors and partners to manage OSP crew activity—accomplishing required work safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Track crew progress and report on it to internal teams, delivering critical information for real‑time job updates.
  • Partner with and monitor OSP contractor crews to drive a safety culture at worksites.
  • Engage with municipalities, utilities, and community members frequently and respectfully to progress projects and address neighborhood concerns.
  • Ensure OSP subcontractor crews meet NESC code for aerial construction.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and requirements to maintain a successful safety record.
  • Support internal teams with materials forecasting, scheduling, and permitting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including departmental and cross‑functional projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship‑building, and influencing skills.
  • Proven project management experience with multiple OSP worksites and concurrent goals.
  • Solid experience with computers and peripherals, and software including Smart Sheets, Sitetracker, and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word). Visio and PowerPoint helpful.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA rules, site safety, National Electric Safety Code (NESC) requirements, and relevant construction and telecommunications regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic—reporting promptly and consistently, with a sense of urgency based on deadlines and competing priorities.
Other Experience & Requirements
  • 5+ years of technical experience in OSP engineering, construction, or operations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Valid, fully unencumbered driver’s license required.
  • Proactive, independent, and able to take initiative to stay on‑task and on‑target.
  • Fiber or telecom industry experience essential.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent time spent walking, standing in the elements at construction worksites.
  • Must utilize appropriate clothing and footwear to maintain safety.
  • Frequent sedentary periods using a computer, keyboard, and other peripherals.
  • Near‑constant use of sight, speech, hearing, comprehension, and reasoning.
