Orthopedics Technician I (Medical Assistant / Athletic Trainer) - West Mifflin - Full Time

Overview

Assists physicians and extenders in providing medical and clerical support across orthopedic practice locations.

Responsibilities

• Perform procedures such as wound care, dressings, EKGs, suture/staple removal, casting/splinting, injections, vaccines, botox, phlebotomy, and ultrasound assistance after training and competency validation.
• Coordinate patient care under provider supervision.
• Prepare and room patients, document health information, and order radiographs per protocols.
• Document all details in electronic health records accurately, including updating allergies, medications, and medical history. May function as a scribe if trained and competent.
• Manage pre-visit charts, review diagnostic reports, and scan pertinent information for physicians.
• Educate patients on wound, pin, cast, and postoperative care per provider instructions.
• Prepare exam rooms, ensure stock of supplies, and support clinic workflow. Medical Assistants with current certification may administer medications; Athletic Trainers (ATC) cannot.
• Travel to satellite locations as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum

• High School Diploma/GED
• Proof of graduation from an AHN-approved Medical Assistant program within five years or relevant athletic training education or experience.
• Medical Assistant Certification or Athletic Trainer Licensure within 120 days of hire.
• CPR certification (American Heart Association).
• Clearances: Act 34, Act 33, and Act 73 FBI fingerprinting.

Preferred

• 3-5 years’ experience as an Orthopedic Technician, Medical Assistant, or Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).
