Inova Orthopedics is seeking a dedicated and skilled Specialty Nurse Practitioner or Specialty Physician Assistant (APPs) to join our Ortho Hand specialty team. This outpatient-focused position offers opportunities to work with a collaborative team back and neck related orthopedic conditions.

Our ortho specialties include groundbreaking, minimally invasive procedures to treat musculoskeletal diseases and injuries, includingstate-of-the-art joint replacement.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform focused clinical evaluations for patients with upper extremity and hand conditions (e.g., fractures, tendon injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, lacerations)
  • Obtain comprehensive patient histories and perform detailed physical exams specific to hand and wrist anatomy and function
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies such as X-rays, MRIs, CTs, and EMG/nerve conduction studies
  • Develop and implement non-operative treatment plans, including splinting, casting, steroid injections, and therapy referrals
  • Assist in the operating room for hand and upper extremity procedures (e.g., tendon repairs, fracture fixation, nerve decompressions) as first or second assist
  • Manage pre-operative and post-operative care, including wound care, dressing changes, suture/staple removal, and post-op follow-ups
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, post-surgical care, and rehabilitation expectations
  • Collaborate closely with orthopedic hand surgeons, therapists, and other specialists to ensure coordinated, high-quality care
  • Document all clinical encounters, procedures, and care plans accurately in the electronic medical record
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment as needed in consultation with supervising physician(s)
  • Participate in care team meetings, case discussions, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Stay current with evidence-based practices in hand surgery, orthopedics, and rehabilitation
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and APP scope-of-practice guidelines

Additional Requirements

  • Work Schedule: Full-Time
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited NP or PA program.
  • Certification: Board certified (ACNP or NCCPA certification), BLS, Virginia License, DEA.
