Job summary

Banner Scottsdale Sports Medicine seeks an Orthopedic Technologist to assist providers in delivering orthopedic care, including applying casts and braces, under physician supervision. You will support patient education, document records, and manage instrument and supply inventories.

Location: Scottsdale with potential coverage at related Banner Health centers; schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm. The department emphasizes patient experience and coordinated care with physicians and staff.

Qualifications

• Must hold ROT/OTC/ATC certification or have equivalent eligible status and pursue ROT/OTC/ATC within 6 months of hire.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance processes and coding/billing procedures typically gained in hospital or practice environments.
• Strong computer skills and ability to use medical software; excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Applies, adjusts, and removes casts, splints, and immobilization devices; measures and fits braces.
• Instructs patients on pre- and post-operative care and cast care.
• Documents information accurately in patient records and handles administrative tasks for the department.
• Orders and maintains product inventory; ensures rooms are stocked and accessible.
• Maintains clean clinical areas and coordinates maintenance for equipment.

As an Orthopedic Technologist at Banner Scottsdale Sports Medicine, you'll join a team that strives to push boundaries, challenge the norm, and come up with ways to make health care easy for our patients and for our staff. You'll be able to use your experiences with applications of casts, splints, DME, dressing, removal of sutures/staples, ordering of procedures.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for assisting providers in the delivery of orthopedic care, including applying casts to patients. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment and skills necessary to provide appropriate patient care. Duties are performed as delegated by a physician under the physician’s direction and supervision.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Applies, adjusts and removes casts, splints, and immobilization devices. Changes dressings and cares for wounds. Measures and fits patients for braces and other orthopedic devices.
2. Communicates instructions to patients regarding pre- and post-operative care, proper care of casts, splints, immobilization devices and crutch training.
3. Documents information into the patient records system accurately and completely. Obtains all necessary signatures and documentation. Provides administrative support in orthopedic department when needed.
4. Orders, tracks and maintains product inventory. Replenishes and disperses supplies within the exam rooms to ensure all rooms are appropriately stocked and readily accessible.
5. Maintains a clean, functional environment including cleaning and disinfection of equipment, exam rooms and storage areas. Performs basic maintenance of equipment and coordinates needed maintenance for prompt repairs.
6. This position functions under supervision and is responsible for all aspects of the patient experience. Interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients/clients, families and external contacts, such as vendors and employees of other health care institutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must have current Registered Orthopedic Technologist (ROT) Certification from the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP), OR current OTC Certification from the National Board of Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists, Inc. (NBCOT), OR is a certified Athletic Trainer through the Board of Certification for Athletic Training (BOC) and possesses or is eligible to obtain an Athletic Trainer license issued in the state of practice. On a case-by-case basis, candidates who are not currently certified by ASOP, NBCOT or the BOC may be considered for this role. Uncertified candidates are required to obtain an ROT, OTC or ATC certification within six months from their date of hire. Uncertified candidates must have either (i) completed a casting class acceptable to Banner Health or (ii) at least one year of casting experience working under the supervision of an a physician at time of hire.

Current BLS Certifications is required.

Requires knowledge of medical terminology, insurance processes, and general billing/coding processes as typically obtained through one year experience in a hospital or physician practice environment. Proof of completion of skills and competencies is required annually.

Requires strong computer skills, including the ability to work with medical software. Requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Requires the ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion.
