Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Apply casts and assist physicians with cast procedures.
  • Prepare patients for reduction of fractures and operate related equipment.
  • Assist in dressing wounds and sterile wound care procedures.
  • Inspect skin and prepare patients for recasting as needed.
  • Instruct patients on cast care, crutch walking and activity limits.
  • Assist in placement and removal of orthopedic pins.
  • Monitor patient progress after casting for circulation and comfort.
  • Supervise daily cast room operations and scheduling.
  • Participate in emergency room cases involving casts.
  • Evaluate new casting materials and techniques for use.
  • Educate residents on cast application and care.
  • Provide telephone triage to patients.
  • Maintain a clean, organized cast room and stock supplies.
  • Obtain necessary insurance authorizations for procedures.

Job description

Responsibilities*
  • Apply simple casts of various materials and assist physicians in the application of complex casts.
  • Prepare patients for and assist in the reduction of fractures by operation of appropriate equipment.
  • Assist in the treatment of sterile and infected wounds including sterile cleansing, cleansing of open and draining wounds and wound dressing.
  • Remove casts and prepare patients for recastings by inspecting, assessing and cleansing skin.
  • Instruct and advise patients on the use and care of casts, crutch walking and appropriate activities.
  • Participate in the placement and removal of orthopedic pins.
  • Assess patient progress after cast application by checking circulation and comfort.
  • Supervise the daily operations and scheduling of the cast room.
  • Participate in emergency room cases involving casts.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new casting materials and techniques.
  • Participate in instruction of residents in cast application and care.
  • Provide telephone triage to patients.
  • Maintain a clean, organized cast room.
  • Stock and maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas.
  • Obtain insurance authorizations for cast procedures as appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications*
  • Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Progressively responsible experience in the application of casts and wound treatment.
  • Considerable knowledge of casting materials
Desired Qualifications*
  • Reasonable experience in clinic operations and emergency services.
