Under the general direction of the orthopedic physician, the Orthopedic Technician is responsible for the application, removal, and repair of orthopedic casts and splints. This position plays a key role in patient care and treatment by supporting physicians and clinical staff in the orthopedic cast room and ensuring proper use of orthopedic devices.
Apply, adjust, and remove a variety of casts, splints, braces, and orthopedic devices as ordered by the physician.
Repair and maintain casts and orthopedic appliances as needed.
Set up, adjust, and dismantle traction equipment following physician instructions.
Maintain cleanliness, safety, and organization of the cast room and equipment.
Instruct patients and families in the proper care and maintenance of casts and orthopedic devices.
Assist physicians during orthopedic procedures related to cast or brace application and removal.
Ensure availability of necessary supplies and materials in the cast room.
Document procedures performed and patient interactions in accordance with clinical protocols.
Monitor patients for signs of complications and report concerns to the physician or nursing staff.
Comply with all safety and infection control procedures.
