Job summary

The Orthopedic Technician role at Tenet Healthcare supports physicians in applying external and internal fixation and manages postoperative care including wound checks, dressings, casts and traction devices. You will educate patients on pin care and lengthening procedures, while assisting in imaging and cast management.

You will be trained in specialized fixation devices and participate in patient assessment, documentation, and CPM device setup post-operatively, contributing to high-quality

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
• Requires 1-3 years of experience in a Medical Setting, preferably in a Physician Practice.
• Requires at least 2 years of experience as an Orthopedic Technician.
• Certification of the National Board for Orthopedic Technologists or American Society of Orthopedic Professionals preferred.
• EMR/EHR experience preferred, NextGen or Athena experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists the physician with post-operative care and follow up to include wound checks, dressing changes, splints and casting to treat injured hips, knees or limbs.
• Assist with traction devices, demonstrate to patients' proper use of crutches, adjust braces, and help prepare patients for procedures.
• Assist with injections, ordering x-rays, sterilizing equipment, assisting in patient assessment, and documenting patient conditions.
• Trained in the sub-specialty of skeletal fixation devices with a focus on various systems (e.g., Taylor Spatial Frame, Ilizarov, MRS, TriGen Nail System, PRECICE, M-100, Penning).
• Charged with patient education in proper pin care, infection prevention measures, lengthening procedures, and turning/lengthening schedules.
• Set up, application and monitoring of CPM device post-operatively.
