Job summary

Children’s Wisconsin is seeking a part-time Orthopedic Technician to deliver direct pediatric orthopedic care in our Delafield clinic. The role works 20 hours weekly with a Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday schedule, no evenings or weekends, partnering with the clinical team to meet patient needs and safety standards.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED/HSED, 1+ year pediatric orthopedic experience preferred, and BLS certification or equivalent within 90 days.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED or HSED required; biology/physics coursework preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year pediatric orthopedics experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of orthopedic instruments, casting techniques, braces application.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct orthopedic care to pediatric patients.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to assess, prioritize, and provide care in the clinic.
  • Support patient, family, and staff with professional communication and care coordination.

The Orthopedic Technician functions with demonstrated expertise in the delivery of direct Orthopedic care to children. Partners with healthcare team and assesses, prioritizes and provides care to clinic patient population. Meets specific requirements, goals, and competencies established within the Orthopedic clinic.

Locations
  • Delafield Clinic - Primary Location and Greenfield Clinic (3365 S 103rd St., Milwaukee, WI 53227)
Work Hours
  • Part time: 20 hours per week
  • Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday – no evenings and no weekends!
Experience
  • 1+ years pediatric experience in orthopedics with proven competency in all relevant areas of practice preferred
Education
  • High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required
  • Course work in biology or physics preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council within 90 Days required
  • CMA-Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants preferred
  • ORTHO-Orthopedic Technician - National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologists, Inc. preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of orthopedic surgery instruments, orthopedic casting techniques, application of braces, normally acquired through a minimum of one year related experience preferred. Must be able to transfer and ambulate patients, lift orthopedic devices, stand for long periods of time and lift objects up to 75 pounds. Frequently bends, lifts, twists, reaches, and squats. Occasionally push/pulls and does overhead work. Good interpersonal skills to effectively interact with physicians, patients, parents and staff. Requires flexibility of time and duties in order to work in a fast paced environment. Familiarity with personal computer operations and functions. Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, providers, staff, and leadership. Good analytical ability to observe and communicate problems as they arise. Promotes courteous behavior as outlines in the department's guest relations’ guidelines.
