The Department of Human Resources is accepting applications for the following position.

Job Title: Orthopedic Surgeons (2)

Department: Department of Surgery

Reports to: Chief of Surgery

Salary: $75,000 – $85,000

Specialty Summary

Performs direct medical care in the specialty and assist the Chief of Orthopedics in supervising the Orthopedic Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides primary care to inpatients assigned to him/her including performing a history and physical examination, writing a treatment plan, and keeping progress notes covering diagnostic evaluation, progress, and discharge. Completes narrative summaries and other documents required for adequate follow-up. Many of these responsibilities are carried out by certified physician assistants under supervision of the staff orthopedic surgeon.
  • Cares for outpatients in the specialty clinic and outpatient department including performing a diagnostic evaluation, writing treatment plans, and ensuring proper follow-up.
  • Is responsible, along with the Chief and Deputy Chief of Orthopedic Service for providing supervision and guidance to the orthopedic physician assistants.
  • Is responsible for daily supervision of orthopedic residents, medical students, and Physician Assistants on the service. Checks their treatment plans, assists and guides them in the performance of necessary surgery, assigns patients and either schedules or designates the authority to schedule “on-call” activities.
  • Provides consultation services to other departments of the hospital and Public Health. This includes extensive telephone support of primary care physicians as well as midlevel practitioners and community health aids.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on own; amounts over 50 pounds with assistance of mechanical devices or other personnel.
  • Must be able to twist, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, use standing balance, walk on uneven ground.
  • Must be able to use hands repetitively, use simple grasp, use firm grasp, use manual dexterity.
