Job summary

Carilion Clinic is seeking a Medical Scribe to support physicians by documenting patient encounters and updating the electronic medical record in real time during the work shift.

The ideal candidate has an Associate's degree, 1–2 years in healthcare, strong typing and communication skills, familiarity with medical terminology, and experience with EPIC EMR and PACS.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent required.
• 1-2 years of experience working with the public in a healthcare setting required.
• Excellent PC, typing and interpersonal and verbal communication skills required. Familiar with medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Transcribes details of the physical exam and chart elements, updating the EMR in real time.
• Records physician consultations with family members or other physicians about a patient's case.
• Transcribes lab, imaging, medications, and reminders to ensure complete patient workups.
• May perform pre-billing reviews and support documentation improvements as directed.
