12-month, full-time residency
Build your career in orthopedics with dedicated training, hands-on procedural experience, and experienced clinicians who invest in your development.
Direct Orthopedic Care is accepting physician assistant and nurse practitioner applicants for our Orthopedic APP Residency. We welcome new graduates, students approaching graduation, and experienced APPs transitioning from another specialty. You can apply before graduation or board certification.
You’ll evaluate patients, develop treatment plans, and build procedural skills with direct mentorship and increasing responsibility as you progress. The program focuses on outpatient, nonoperative orthopedics and musculoskeletal pain care, with operative exposure to help you understand the full course of orthopedic treatment.
Develop your orthopedic examination skills, interpret imaging, and learn to manage acute injuries and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. Procedural training includes joint and soft-tissue injections, musculoskeletal ultrasound, aspiration, fracture reduction, splinting, and casting.
Clinical experiences include sports medicine, hand and upper extremity, spine, arthroplasty, pediatric orthopedics, rehabilitation, and orthobiologics. Structured academics and case discussions connect what you’re studying to the patients you’re treating.
You’ll also learn the practical skills involved in outpatient practice, including documentation, clinic efficiency, and coordination with surgical and rehabilitation teams.
Physician assistants and nurse practitioners with a strong interest in orthopedics, a willingness to ask questions, and the ability to put feedback into practice. Whether you’re preparing for your first APP role or changing specialties, we’re looking for residents who take their education and patient care seriously.
Applicants must be enrolled in or have graduated from an accredited physician assistant or nurse practitioner program.
You do not need to have graduated, passed your certification exam, or received your license to apply or interview. Graduation, national certification, and appropriate Texas licensure must be completed before starting the residency.
