Job description

Description

The incumbent will function as a faculty member in the Department of Surgery, in the Division of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation. They will be responsible for active participation in the development and delivery of instructional activities to students, residents, and allied health professionals, as well as service and research functions related to their specialty interest and expertise.

Examples of Duties
  1. Administration 5%
    Perform administrative duties as requested by the Chairman of the Division of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation.
  2. Teaching 15%
    Participate in developing and implementing undergraduate curricula in orthopaedic trauma, directly involve in residency training, mentor on the Basic Surgical Clerkship, serve as a resource on clinical management, and participate in continuing education programs.
  3. Research 15%
    Stimulate and initiate clinical research in trauma and orthopaedics, seek grant support, and serve as a role model for residents and students in research and medical writing.
  4. Service 50%
    Demonstrate commitment to the mission and standards of SIU School of Medicine, collaborate on community trauma programs, maintain clinical proficiency, participate in call schedules, serve on committees, represent the division, and assist in patient care program development.
Qualifications
  1. Sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented minority populations
  2. Graduate of an accredited medical school
  3. Licensed or eligible to practice medicine in Illinois
  4. Completed an Orthopaedic residency
  5. Board Eligible or Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery
  6. Graduate of a formal trauma specialty training program
