Job summary

Katalyst CRO is seeking an Orthopaedic Technician to support physicians in a clinical setting in Rancho Mirage, CA. You will assist with casting, splinting, and other patient care tasks, while ensuring accurate charting, patient intake, and room turnover.

Responsibilities include preparing supplies, handling post-procedure tasks, documenting patient information, and coordinating with the care team to maintain efficient patient flow. A valid Orthopaedic Tech Certification and BLS are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (or higher) required for hire after Mar 1, 2025.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and positively.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and technology.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Strong critical thinking and written/verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist orthopedic physician/PA with patient care (casting, splinting, care of casts/splints/external fixators).
  • Prepare patients for intake, rooming, and charting/documentation.
  • Assist with procedures and procure supplies ahead of start.
  • Maintain clean, stocked treatment areas and exam rooms.
  • Apply orthopaedic devices to patients from infant to geriatric.
  • Answer calls and document patient history as requested.
  • Remove sutures or staples, change dressings, and schedule tests.
  • Log nurse notes and medication refills in charts.
  • Manage patient flow and prepare surgery charts and records.
  • Process DME applications when needed.
  • Stay current with new techniques via continuing education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violation.
  • Operates according to all policy and procedures, demonstrating competency and knowledge of the clinic environment.
  • Assists physician with procedures; anticipates physician's needs and procures appropriate supplies prior to start of procedure.
  • Maintains orderly and appropriately stocked treatment area and exam rooms.
  • Assists with putting away supplies and room turnover.
  • Applies orthopaedic devices (i.e., casts, splints, braces) to patients ranging in age from infant to geriatric.
  • Accepts responsibilities only within scope of practice.
  • Answers phone messages and returns patient calls during same business day.
  • Obtains patient history and prep physician as requested.
  • Performs removal of sutures or staples; changes dressings; schedules tests.
  • Logs nurse notes and medication refills in patient charts.
  • Assists with appropriately managing patient flow.
  • Prepares surgery charts for doctor and charts for clinic; scans patient records.
  • Processes DME applications, if DME Coordinator is not available.
  • Keeps current with new techniques and equipment through participation in continuing education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Required: High school diploma, GED or higher-level degree if hired after March 1, 2025.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment (i.e., computer, printer, scanner, telephone, etc.).
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines.

  • Licensure/Certification:
  • Required: Orthopaedic Tech Certification; American Heart Association BLS.
