Job summary

The University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks an Assistant or Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery to lead an independent basic science research program. The successful candidate will pursue high-impact studies in musculoskeletal biology and will collaborate with clinical faculty to advance patient care.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring students and postdocs, and serving on departmental committees.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant field such as Orthopaedic Basic Science, Musculoskeletal Biology, Biomedical Science, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated excellence in basic science research with a strong publication record. Experience in obtaining and managing research grants is preferred.
  • Previous teaching and mentoring at undergraduate or graduate level is highly desirable.
  • Strong commitment to research excellence and collaborative teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead an independent research program in orthopaedic basic science and seek Federal funding.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to orthopaedic basic science and musculoskeletal biology; supervise graduate students and postdocs.
  • Contribute to departmental and institutional committees; engage in peer review and scholarly activities.
  • Collaborate with clinical faculty and participate in research consortia and interdisciplinary projects.
