Job summary

Associated Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons PA is seeking an Orthodontic Assistant to support the orthodontist and clinical team in delivering safe, comfortable patient care. You will assist with treatments, manage instruments, maintain a clean, organized environment, take X-rays or scans as needed, and update patient records in the EHR/PMS system.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, completion of an accredited orthodontic assisting program (preferred), 1–2 years of orthodontic/dental

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an accredited orthodontic assisting program preferred.
• 1–2 years experience as an orthodontic/dental assistant, preferably with orthodontic focus.
• Knowledge of orthodontic procedures, appliances, and terminology.
• Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills with patients and team members.
• HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Assist the orthodontist during treatments, including braces placement and removal, impressions, wire adjustments, and elastics.
• Ensure patient comfort and respond to patient needs during procedures.
• Prepare patients, explain procedures, and address questions.
• Keep instruments and materials available to support efficient treatment.
• Sterilize and prepare instruments according to infection control protocols.
• Maintain clean, organized treatment rooms and inventory.
• Take diagnostic X-rays, panoramic images, or digital scans as needed.
• Update patient records in the EHR/PMS with treatment progress and results.
• Assist with fitting and removal of retainers, expanders, and braces.
• Provide post-treatment instructions and retainer care guidance.
• Educate patients on care of braces and appliances to optimize results.
• Monitor inventory and reorder supplies to maintain stock.
