We believe that to provide excellent care as a team, we need to conduct certain procedures, verbiage, and techniques in a timely, consistent fashion. We are seeking an outgoing, detail-oriented, compassionate candidate to be part of our growing business. We are excited to offer on-the-job training for a star candidate that is up for the challenge!

Period of Performance

Training will start on your hire date and will continue through a 90-day period. The first 4 weeks are strictly hands-on training. You will be required to complete the 4-week Training Check-List. After the Training Check-List is completed, your skill level will be evaluated by the clinical manager. Once you pass the 4-6 week evaluation period, you will be responsible for working on your own; however, your work will be checked by the Clinical Manager or Lead Assistant.

The trainer will use the Training Check-List to ensure you are well on your way to becoming a strong Orthodontic Assistant. The trainers will be with you throughout the training and will be the best resource for on-the-job procedures and duties. The daily and weekly objectives will be reached by focusing on 1-2 topics per day. We use WhatsApp as our team group chat to keep up with the news in the office. Job Description

An Orthodontic Assistant’s priority is excellent patient care. This job requires an outgoing, energetic personality. This position determines the patient’s overall care, comfort, and experience at Saint Louis South Orthodontics. It requires good hand-eye coordination, great attention to detail, and confidence in accuracy. This position executes the treatment plan provided by the doctor. It is crucial that you listen to the doctor’s directions, perform the procedures correctly and efficiently, and accurately chart the patient’s visit.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

An Orthodontic Assistant will be responsible for the following:

  1. Following Procedures: You will follow the procedures listed in the Training Manual. The training will guide you to follow the correct steps for each procedure. It is expected that each Orthodontic Assistant follows every procedure to eliminate all shortcuts that could result in emergency visits.
  2. SDS: Same Day Starts is becoming part of our culture. Our goal is to provide the new patient with the convenience of ONE visit. We want to get them in as soon as possible, with no more than 15 minutes wait time for SDS.
  3. Staying within Appointment Times: On average, an Orthodontic Assistant can see 15-20 patients on any given day. It is important to stay within the allotted appointment time. Each Clinical Manager will run a weekly report to ensure all Orthodontic Assistants are staying within the expected procedure times.
  4. Detailed Chart Notes: At the end of each visit, you will record the treatment notes in the patient’s chart. The patient’s chart is a legal medical record. All discussions between the patient, parent, and doctor must be recorded, documenting what was done during the appointment.
  5. Communicating with Patients: Communication is key! We encourage parents to stay involved in their loved one’s treatment by asking questions and facilitating good oral hygiene. Deliver patient feedback as needed to family. Discuss what is being done at today’s visit and what will be done at the next visit. Always introduce yourself to the patient and parent.
  6. Opening/Closing Duties: The Clinical Manager will assign daily opening and closing duties. Each of the Orthodontic Assistants is responsible for completing the tasks assigned to them.
  7. Late Policy: The expectations are to clock in for every shift on time each morning. The third tardy or unexpected absence in a 30-day period will result in a probationary period. Any violations during the probationary period will end in a written warning, and after two written warnings, will result in termination.
