Sugarbug is hiring Orthodontic Assistants

Sugarbug Orthodontics is an established Orthodontic practice that has been serving the county of Ventura for over 10 years, just a short drive from the ocean in the city of Oxnard, CA. As our company has expanded and continues to grow, so do the opportunities to grow our team. Sugarbug is currently looking for Orthodontic Assistants to join our practice.

Sugarbug is seeking an Orthodontic Assistant to work alongside our doctors to provide high-quality orthodontic treatment for children, teens, and adults. This position requires dedication to the delivery of quality oral health care in a caring and compassionate nature and a commitment to becoming an integral part of Sugarbug’s orthodontic team. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Patient Management
  • Greet patients
  • Set up treatment rooms for procedures
  • Escort patients to treatment room
  • Seat patients in treatment rooms
  • Show care and concern, and help patients feel comfortable
  • Obtain and review health histories according to office protocol
  • Ensure patients are always attended
  • Anticipate and assist dentist’s needs
  • Perform functions and tasks as assigned by the dentist
  • Mix dental materials
  • Ensure patients’ questions are answered thoroughly before they leave
  • Chart patients' records, service rendered, and any charges
  • Escort patients from the treatment room to treatment coordination
  • Ensure proper treatment notes are recorded in patient’s chart
  • Perform clinical procedures as practice act allows and as directed by dentist
  • Monitor patient flow
Treatment Room Management and Sterilization
  • Keep dental units ready, stocked, and clean
  • Oversee cleanliness of the treatment room according to sterilization procedures
  • Disinfect treatment rooms according to OSHA regulations
  • Sterilize all instruments and handpieces according to OSHA regulations
  • Keep trays, instruments, and treatment room drawers organized
  • Ensure that office sterilization procedures document is on display
  • Promptly send out and monitor all dental laboratory cases
  • Implement the preventative maintenance/cleaning schedule for dental equipment
  • Follow laboratory procedures according to office protocol
  • Take intraoral impressions for all non-prosthodontic appliances
  • Take facebow transfers and bite registrations
  • Place and remove rubber dams or other isolation devices
  • Perform measurements for the purposes of orthodontic treatment
  • Cure restorative or orthodontic materials in operative site with a light-curing device
  • Examine orthodontic appliances
  • Place and remove orthodontic separators
  • Remove and place ligature ties and archwires
  • After adjustment by the dentist, examine and seat removable orthodontic appliances and deliver care instructions to the patient
Experience
  • Coursework in dental assisting and procedures
  • Compliance with state dental practice requirements (i.e., X-ray requirements, OSHA training)
Interpersonal Skills
  • Good interpersonal skills to maintain effective rapport with patients, dentists, other staff members, and the community
  • Effective verbal skills to communicate with patients and staff

Compensation: 31-54k yearly range based on hourly pay, based on experience, licensing, and education.
