PURPOSE

Provides orthopedic care, under supervision, for clinic, hospital and surgery patients. Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization supported.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides application of splints and casts
  • Provides brace fitting and molding, with patient instruction of use and care
  • Obtains insurance authorizations for orthopedic devices as dictated by insurance
  • Performs telephone triage of cast, splint, wound problems
  • Provides patient education when appropriate
  • Sets up equipment/supplies and assists with surgical procedures in office
  • Participates in sterile techniques and procedures
  • Assists nurses in maintaining patient flow through clinic
  • Assists in scheduling of diagnostic testing as needed
  • Assists in transport of patients as needed
  • Maintains inventory as needed
  • Assists surgery scheduling in ordering specialty items
  • Receives vendors and evaluates new products
  • Scrubs with physicians as needed
  • Disposes of contaminated items according to OSHA guidelines
  • Stocks and maintains cast rooms
  • Attends all regular meetings
  • Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct
  • Regular and dependable attendance

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists x-ray in developing films, filing, clerical duties as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
Required: High school diploma or GED.
Preferred: Experience in a physician's office or hospital, preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of managed care basics, and experience working with a managed care and Medicare population
  • Familiarity with document imaging and workflow systems a plus
  • Ability to perform job functions, troubleshoot problems and make decisions without direct supervision
  • Must be flexible in daily assignments and able to cross-cover within an assigned work group
  • Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instruction and must be able to communicate with co-workers to perform duties as part of a work group
  • Must display a high level of accuracy, critical thinking and organization
  • Must be able to carry 20 pounds and lift 5 pounds overhead
  • Strong computer and keyboarding skills, including familiarity with Windows
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal & problem solving skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Certificate/License

  • Current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card or within 60 days of hire required

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-5:00PM.
