Overview

Responsible for providing care for patients including assessment, treatment, care planning and medical care evaluation by following standards and practices. Assists physicians, mid-levels and other staff in coordinating patient care.

Qualifications

Certifications: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (AAH) - American Allied Health (AAH); Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA); Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (AMT) - American Medical Technologists (AMT); Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) - National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP); Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (ARMA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA).
Education: H.S. Diploma/GED (Required).
Work Experience: Medical Terminology.

Responsibilities

  1. Cares for and assists patients as appropriate, brings patient care issues to the provider's attention.
  2. Cleans and stocks exam rooms.
  3. Obtains and documents a proper intake including but not limited to patient's history of present illness, health history, vital signs, and health risk factors, assesses condition via MORSE fall scale or Oswestry pain scale as appropriate.
  4. Provides patient education materials, communicates physician advice/instructions to the patient.
  5. Obtains patient consent for care/in-office procedures.
  6. Sets up and assists with office surgeries and procedures including but not limited to: injections, US injections, C-arm injections, and fracture closed reductions, podiatric office procedures.
  7. Works closely with provider, nurse, and other staff to ensure quality patient care.
  8. Fits patients with boots, braces, and other DME items as ordered by the provider.
  9. Cast and splint application and removal. Dressing changes and applications, suture and staple removal. Provides patient education specific for the item.
  10. Prepares injections.
  11. Obtains all lab, imaging, op note, and office visits from outside facilities.
  12. Places orders for physical therapy, imaging, lab work, etc. as ordered by the provider.
  13. Ensure patient confidentiality.
  14. Other duties as assigned.
  15. Train other ortho tech staff to ensure competency with rooming process, fitting, and dispensing of DME, applying and removing casts.
  16. Compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and Red Flag rules.
  17. Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies.
  18. Improves processes/addressing issues with anything related to clinic processes and procedures.
  19. Prepares instruments for sterilization. Ensure autoclave is in proper working order.
  20. Checks AED's weekly to ensure they are in good working order.
  21. Ordering/maintaining/stocking of supplies for clinic use.
  22. Checking clean/dirty laundry status and ensuring we have appropriate stock on hand.
  23. Coordinates packaging and pick up of Biohazard waste for disposal.
  24. Collects all used instruments and prepares for courier to transport to sterilization at CBMC/Disperses returned and sterilized items to clinic for use.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $18.72 per hour - $30.33 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
