Job summary

Westerly Hospital is seeking an experienced Per Diem Orthopedic Physician Assistant to join our Orthopedic Surgery team. This role involves collaborating closely with orthopedic surgeons, providing care in various settings including the operating room, inpatient units, and outpatient follow-ups.

The ideal candidate will have prior orthopedic experience, serve as a First Assistant during surgical procedures, and possess strong clinical judgment. The position offers flexible scheduling to meet departmental needs and various orthopedic surgical cases.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Board Certified Physician Assistant (NCCPA).
• Active state PA license or eligibility to obtain.
• Orthopedic surgery experience required.
• Operating room First Assist experience required.
• Ability to work independently in a surgical environment.
• Strong clinical judgment and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as First Assist in the operating room during orthopedic surgical procedures.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, histories, and physical exams.
• Assist with pre‑operative and post‑operative patient management.
• Participate in inpatient rounding on orthopedic surgical patients.
• Provide outpatient follow‑up care for orthopedic patients.
• Order and interpret diagnostic imaging and laboratory tests.
• Perform procedures such as joint injections, splinting, casting, and wound care.
• Collaborate with surgeons to develop treatment plans.
• Educate patients and families regarding procedures and recovery.
• Document patient encounters accurately in the medical record.
