Our Familia Dental Fort Wayne Coldwater office is looking for dedicated candidates to join our team as an Orthodontic Dental Assistant! We provide on the job training, so certification is not required to be hired as an Ortho DA.

Position Overview

The Ortho Assistant performs many tasks requiring both interpersonal and technical skills. To effectively and efficiently assist the dentist in providing dental care to patients and to promote Familia Dental’s culture and mission and values.

Responsibilities/ Duties:

  1. Maintaining accurate records of patients' oral health histories and treatment progress.
  2. Ensuring that all orthodontic instruments and equipment are properly sterilized before each use.
  3. Keeping patients’ mouths dry during orthodontic procedures by using a suction hose as needed.
  4. Taking intraoral X-rays of patients’ mouths.
  5. Taking photographs of patients’ teeth to aid the Orthodontist in developing treatment plans and to document patient progress.
  6. Taking dental molds of patients’ teeth for the fabrication of customized mouth guards and retainers.
  7. Removing and replacing wires, coil springs, donuts, and elastic bands.
  8. Educating patients on proper oral hygiene practices and braces aftercare.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Availability / Schedule:

Working hours between: M-F, 8:30AM - 6:30 PM and Sat, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM

  1. Full time employment:
  2. 4+ days a week, 30-40 hours per week
  3. Available to work rotating Saturdays, when needed
  4. Full shifts (8-10 hours)
