Job summary

Ampersand Therapy in Seattle, WA is seeking a full-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the 2026–2027 school year. This itinerant role involves traveling between schools to deliver in-person O&M instruction.

You will evaluate students’ needs, teach safe travel, cane use, and route planning, and develop IEP-aligned goals. Collaboration with teachers, families, and service providers is essential.

Qualifications

  • Current Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) credential or applicable state authorization.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in orientation and mobility, visual impairments, or a related field.
  • Experience working with students across multiple grade levels preferred.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to travel between school sites and provide instruction in varied environments.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate students’ orientation and mobility needs in school and community environments.
  • Provide individualized instruction in safe and independent travel skills.
  • Teach skills involving spatial awareness, sensory efficiency, route planning, and cane use.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor orientation and mobility goals within students’ IEPs.
  • Collaborate with Teachers of the Visually Impaired, families, educators, and related service providers.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and monitor student progress.
  • Travel between assigned schools and instructional environments as needed.
