Job summary

Butler University in Indianapolis invites applications for a full-time Research Assistant in the organic chemistry laboratory. This grant-funded position supports a LEAP program project and will perform organics synthesis and characterization, preparing substrates and documenting results.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor’s in chemistry and have at least two years of lab experience, with familiarity in synthesis; NMR experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field is required.
• At least 2 years of research experience in a laboratory setting.
• Experience in synthetic organic chemistry and chemical characterization is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Synthesize new fluorogenic ester substrates
• Prepare starting materials for fluorogenic ester synthesis
• Perform full chemical characterization of all compounds
• Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook
• Update chemical inventory
• Ship final products to collaborators for biological testing
• Maintain a clean laboratory space
