Job summary

ExxonMobil's Houston campus seeks a highly skilled researcher in organic chemistry to advance projects on molecular design and synthesis. The role emphasizes creating structure-property relationships and applying advanced characterization techniques to study chemical systems.

You will contribute to cross-disciplinary research programs, publish findings, and collaborate with internal teams and external partners within a state-of-the-art energy research environment.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Physical Organic Chemistry, Organometallic Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in molecular design and/or chemical synthesis.
  • Strong understanding of reaction mechanisms and mechanistic chemistry.
  • Experience establishing structure-property relationships through experimental investigation.
  • Knowledge of phase behavior, molecular interactions, and physical property characterization.
  • Experience with molecular characterization techniques such as NMR, GC, LC, mass spectrometry, and related methods.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary research teams.
  • Strong record of publications, presentations, patents, or other evidence of technical impact.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and test structure-property hypotheses through synthesis, characterization, and experimental investigation.
  • Study molecular interactions, phase behavior, and relationships between molecular structure and physical and chemical properties.
  • Build productive collaborations both internally and with external research organizations.
