Job summary

Oregon’s Legislative Policy and Research Office (LPRO) seeks a legislative analyst for a limited-duration position during the 2027 legislative session. The ideal candidate is familiar with the legislative process, enjoys working with people, is flexible and nimble in the face of change, and has a track record of serving people with different perspectives and goals.

They are well organized, able to exercise independent judgment and discretion, and have excellent written and verbal communication

Qualifications

  • Graduate Degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Law, or other related field; and, Three (3) years of experience researching, analyzing, interpreting, developing, or administering public policy.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to demonstrate ability to perform the duties of the position may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Providing written and oral information regarding proposed legislation, policies, policy interpretation, and policy options
  • Assisting in the development of legislation, including working with agencies, government branches, stakeholder groups, and legislators
  • Drafting policy briefs
  • Working with a committee chair to prepare committee work plans and meeting agendas, providing legislative process advice to one or more legislative committees
  • Staffing one or more work groups
  • Responding to research requests from legislators
