Applications are invited for the 2026/2027 year for Non-Training Registrar (NTR) Oral & Maxillofacial Positions (2+ years post-graduation) at Waikato Hospital.
Candidates who have completed two years of postgraduate hospital experience, including a variety of surgical experience, will be considered. Dually qualified (Medicine and Dentistry) or dentally qualified applicants are welcomed to apply.

Waikato Hospital is a teaching hospital and the major tertiary referral center for the Te Manawa Taki and Waikato area, serving approximately 1 million people. It uniquely offers all surgical specialties on one campus and is the main trauma hospital for the Midland region.
The hospital has 550 inpatient beds, performs over 34,000 surgical procedures annually, and handles about 220 emergency presentations daily.

The Oral and Maxillofacial Department provides a tertiary service to the Central North Island of New Zealand. Hamilton is a Level 1 trauma centre and a large tertiary teaching hospital, affiliated with the University of Auckland School of Medicine.
The team includes 3 OMS Consultants, 1 OMS H+N Fellow, 1 full-time Training Registrar, 2 NTRs, 1 Medical RMO, and 3 OMS House Officers. The workload involves acute cases (e.g., odontogenic infections, facial trauma) and elective surgeries including dento-alveolar, orthognathics, benign and malignant pathology, and TMJ surgery. You will provide regional acute, elective, and outpatient OMS services, collaborating with ORL Head and Neck Surgery, ICU, and Oncology colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Waikato is a leading OMS training centre, accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. Opportunities for training and research are available, supported by a structured weekly departmental teaching program.
This is a 24/7 OMS service; the successful candidate will contribute to on-call duties on a 1 in 3 basis. Trainees and house surgeons will be present, and your role includes supporting their education and development, alongside visiting students.
