Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist for the RWJUH Rahway Hospital in New Jersey. The role requires certification and an accredited program, with on-call duties and an evening FT schedule (11:30am–10:00pm, 10-hour shifts, four days a week with one day off).

The candidate will scrub on cases, uphold sterile technique, advocate for patients, and collaborate with the surgical team to ensure safe, efficient patient care.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited ARC/ASTA Surgical Technology program with clinical hours.
• Willingness to take on call emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Scrub independently on surgical cases.
• Maintain sterile technique knowledge and practice.
• Advocate for patient safety in the surgical setting.
• Report safety issues such as hazards and med errors.
• Delegate patient care appropriately within the health care team.
• Communicate effectively with physicians and other care providers.
• Prioritize interventions with measurable outcomes toward improvement.
• Perform other essential duties as required.

Job Overview:

The Surgical Technologist (ST) delivers care in the health care system within the scope of practice defined by the ASC/ASTand regulatory standards and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics.

The Surgical Technologistassures safety in practice and is inclusive of the principles of evidence-based practice by maintaining a realization of owning an individual level of knowledge and experience and assumingresponsibility for one's ownprofessionaladvancement.The ST is an interdisciplinary team member utilizing the nursing process to integrate all aspects of the provision of care and individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient's needs.

Qualifications:Required:

• Completion of an accredited ARC/ASTA Surgical Technology program including appropriate documented clinical hours
• Willing to take on call emergencies

Preferred:

• Prior Surgical Tech experience

Certifications and Licenses Required:

• National Certification in Surgical Technology
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association

• Communicates effectively and collaborates with physicians and other patient care providers
• Responsible for consistently setting and evaluating priorities through appropriate interventions with measurable outcomes toward improvement
• Other essential duties as required
