Job summary

MLK Community Healthcare is seeking an Operating Room Technician to assist the surgical team, maintain sterile field, and support perioperative services. You will prepare and assist on procedures under supervision, ensuring high-quality patient care and adherence to hospital policies.

The role requires high school diploma, BLS, CST preferred, and 18+ months of perioperative experience; strong communication skills are essential. Location: Los Angeles, CA; pay is hourly.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; BLS certification required.
• Experience in an acute care perioperative setting preferred; CST certification preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills are essential.
• Internal candidates with approved certification may be considered with less experience.

Responsibilities

• Assists surgical team with aseptic technique and instrument handling.
• Prepares, sets up and assists during various surgical procedures.
• Maintains sterility of the surgical field and equipment.
• Coordinates with circulating nurse and OR supervisor for counts and specimen identification.
• Verifies equipment functions prior to procedures.

Position Summary

The Operating Room Technician will report to the Director of Perioperative Services and work under the supervision of Perioperative Services Clinical Unit Supervisor (CUS). He/she will assist the surgical team in providing high quality health care to the patients requiring surgical intervention. He/she will apply knowledge of aseptic technique, principles of sterilization and the understanding of the purpose and use of surgical instruments. This position requires close concentration and a high degree of accuracy and organization to prepare, set up and assist on various surgical procedures. The Operating Room Technician is responsible as an individual and as part of the professional team to perform to the highest standards in order to provide the optimal results in the perioperative patient care. This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Healthcare. • Works in collaboration with circulating nurse to ensure accuracy of sponge, needle, and instrument counts throughout procedures as well as identification of the surgical specimens.
• Verifies equipment functions properly before the procedure.
• Demonstrates knowledge and participates in providing high quality, individualized patient/family centered care within the Watson Model of Care including key elements of Caring, Competence, Communication and Commitment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Pay Rate Type: Hourly
Salary Range (Depending on Experience): $28.80 - $49.04

Position Requirements

• Education
• High School Diploma required
• BLS certification required
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
• Minimum of at least 18 months of experience in an acute care Perioperative services hospital setting. Internal candidates in good standing with approved certification may be considered without the minimum experience requirement.
• Knowledge of core curriculum of Surgical Technologist education & training, current infection control practices, sharp-related injury prevention, instruments and sterilization procedures
