Job summary

HCA Florida Kendall Hospital is seeking an Operating Room Technician for the evening shift. The role requires knowledge of sterile technique and the ability to anticipate the surgical team's needs under supervision of a RN.

You will assemble supplies, prepare sterile instrument tables, maintain asepsis, assist during procedures, and ensure safe, clean environments between cases. Hospital benefits and growth opportunities accompany this position.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Operating Room Scrub Technician Certification (CST) preferred.
  • Completion of an Accredited Surgical Scrub Technician Program or experience working as a scrub tech.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification or must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • 1 year minimum experience as an OR TECH preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
  • Prepares sterile instrument table as well as gathering equipment after procedure for cleaning and sterilization.
  • Accurately completes all sponge, sharp, and instrument counts and reports all discrepancies to the nurse or surgeon.
  • Positions patient accordingly to type of surgery.
  • Prepares patient skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Provides comfort and support pre-operative patients.
  • Transports patients to and from surgical suite.
  • Assists the surgical team in surgical procedures which may include passing instruments, sponges, and sutures.
  • Cleans and prepares room between procedures and after last case; restocks supplies when necessary and organizes effectively for end of case clean up.
  • Maintains a safe work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” and “Mission and Value Statement.”
  • Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
  • Properly handles specimens: Identifies specimen appropriately with the physician – maintains specimens during the procedure and checks with surgeon prior to passing off field.
  • Obtains specific supplies, non-narcotic medications and equipment: Checks preference cards prior to case and makes arrangements to obtain special supplies.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Operating Room Technician demonstrates knowledge of surgical instruments and principals of sterile technique. The Operating Room Technician anticipates the needs of the surgical suite within the scope of the position’s competencies with the use of critical thinking. The Operating Room Technician adheres to hospital policies and procedure, is supervised by the Registered Nurse, and collaborates with the surgical team to improve customer satisfaction. The Operating Room Technician is a supportive role and will be implemented, as the needs of the department require.
