Qualifications

• Must be a graduate of a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited Surgical Technology program and attain national certification within 12 months of graduation.
• Must graduate from an accredited school of practical nursing.
• Qualify under Grandfathering Clause: at least 1 year of surgical technologist employment between 2010-2014.
• Qualify under Hard-to-Fill Clause: complete program and certification within 24 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a minimum of 15 Continuing Medical Education hours annually.
• Prepare and check instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
• Set up and maintain a sterile field with strict aseptic technique.
• Assist with patient draping and ensure proper attire of the surgical team.
• Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during procedures.
• Perform accurate sponge and sharp counts with the circulating nurse.
• Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization.
• Support specialty surgical services and stock OR rooms as needed.
• Prepare sterile dressings and assist with post-operative care.
• Orient new staff and contribute to unit goals and objectives.
• May handle medications, sharps, and syringes on the sterile field.

Education

CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited Surgical Technology program; national certification within 12 months

Graduated from an accredited school of practical nursing

Grandfathering Clause: 1+ year surgical technologist experience pre-2010

Hard-to-Fill Clause: certification within 24 months of hire
