Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Surgical Technician to support the surgeon and OR team in a fast-paced surgical environment. You will assist with instrument handling, sterile setup, and patient care within multiple surgical subspecialties, under supervision.

Responsibilities include maintaining sterile fields, participating in timeouts, and training residents and OR staff. Work schedule is typically Mon-Fri with on-call status and some weekends/holidays; on-site at VA

Qualifications

• English language proficiency requirement: must be proficient in written and spoken English.
• IOR qualifications: one year specialized experience at GS-6 level or education as described.
• Education substitution: one full year of graduate education or internship related to surgical technology.

Responsibilities

• Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment during procedures.
• Set up sterile field for each procedure.
• Participate in official time-out to verify site, procedure, patient, and laterality.
• Maintain sterility and infection control throughout operations.
• Assist in training residents, students, and OR staff in procedures and equipment.
