Job summary

Springfield Clinic is seeking a Surgical Assistant I to serve as a First Assistant in the operating room. This full-time role requires a current LPN or Certified Surgical Tech credential and a First Assistant certification, with 5+ years of OR experience.

You will support surgeons during procedures, prepare the field, and document pertinent notes. Responsibilities include patient positioning, wound closure, equipment checks, and on-call availability.

Qualifications

• Graduate of LPN or Certified Surgical Tech program with evidence of completed certification as a First Assistant in the OR.
• At least five (5) years of OR experience.
• Must maintain current LPN license with surgical experience or certified surgical tech.
• Certification as a Surgical First Assistant.

Responsibilities

• Be the First Assistant to the surgeon in the OR and assist in operative procedures.
• Position the patient and prepare the operative field.
• Review equipment and instruments required for the operation.
• Assist with wound closure as approved by the surgeon.
• Document orders and notes for surgeon review.
• Assist in obtaining supplies and equipment for procedures.
• Promote rapport with hospital and clinic personnel.
• Attend rounds as needed and review patient records.
• Follow HIPAA and clinic privacy policies.
