Job summary

Dignity Health - Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City, CA is seeking an Operating Room Technician to provide sterile processing and in-room support under RN/Supervisor. You will handle instruments, maintain sterility, and assist surgical teams to ensure safe, efficient procedures.

Responsibilities include preparing OR instruments, coordinating with SPD, and ensuring equipment readiness. A background in central service and CST/CSPD/CSPDT certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and staff to maintain a professional atmosphere.

• Collect, process and sterilize items from all areas including OR.
• Coordinate with surgeons' schedules to prepare instruments.
• Inspect and assemble OR instrument sets with schedule coordination.
• Run and monitor sterilizers according to policy.

As an Operating Room Tech, you will be a vital member of the healthcare team, providing technical and supportive services in the Operating Room under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse/Supervisor/Clinical Coordinator.

As an Operating Room Tech, you will be a vital member of the healthcare team, providing technical and supportive services in the Operating Room under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse/Supervisor/Clinical Coordinator.

Daily, you may access or distribute drugs, needles, or syringes to/within patient care areas or treatment carts as per hospital policy. Your role ensures seamless and safe OR function, supporting surgical procedures and maintaining sterility.

Success in this role requires meticulous attention, strong surgical and sterile technique knowledge, excellent teamwork, and adherence to all policies.

• Ensures a professional and responsive atmosphere by greeting patients, visitors, staff, and physicians promptly and courteously. Refers to each individual by name when appropriate. Screens individuals by requesting to see identification or visitor pass.
• Operates, cleans and maintains equipment.
• Collects, processes and sterilizes articles from all areas including Operating Room on a priority basis.
• Serves as SPD liaison with physicians offices and Instrument Vendors by obtaining special requests prior to elective surgery and assuring that required instruments are prepared and available as needed.
• With the aid of computer based lists, inspects, maintains, assembles, and picks Operating Room instruments and sets, coordinating activities with Operation Room Surgical Schedule and OR Staff.
• Runs and monitors the biological test for the stream and Sterrad (low temperature) sterilizers.

Job Requirements

Required

• High School Graduate General Studies and
• One (1) year of full time experience as a central service technician, upon hire or
• High School GED General Studies and
• One (1) year of full time experience as a central service technician, upon hire and
• Six (6) months experience in processing and assembly of surgical instruments. and
• Experience requirement may be waived for individuals who have successfully completed a Central Services Technician (CST) externship at Sequoia Hospital.
• High School Graduate, upon hire or
• High School GED, upon hire and
• One year experience in general transcription required. Two years general secretary experience and
• Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years combined experience in healthcare industry and
• Certified and Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), upon hire or
• Certified Sterile Processing and Dist Supervisor (CSPDS) , upon hire or
• Certified Sterile Processing and Dist Tech (CSPDT), upon hire or
• Cert Sterile Processing Dist Tech (CSPDT-CBSPD), upon hire

Preferred

• Experience/training in EKG interpretation preferred. Experience in billing systems preferred. Experience in event coordination preferred.
