Qualifications

Job Description

Our surgical service lines perform over 33,000 cases annually, staffed by top talent. Our multidisciplinary teams work together to value each member's contribution, aiming to optimize patient outcomes. The program provides new nurses with a strong foundation to excel in the OR environment.

Prentice OR service lines include:

  • Gynecology
  • Plastics
  • Robotic Surgery
  • Breast

Northwestern Memorial Hospital has 60+ operating rooms, including:

  • Prentice Women’s Hospital – focusing on women’s health (gynecology, breast, plastics, robotics)

We are a Level I trauma and stroke center, offering high-quality emergency and trauma services.

OR Scheduling and Call Requirements:

  • Team members rotate weekends and are required to take call on holidays.
  • Call response time is within 30 minutes, with a total of 60-100 hours every six weeks.

The OR Scrub Technician reflects our mission, vision, and values, adhering to our Code of Ethics and Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant standards. They are part of the Surgical Team, under the guidance of the Registered Nurse, responsible for patient safety and OR preparation.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Care for and handle specimens and surgical instruments.
  • Assist during surgeries, standing for extended periods.
  • Maintain aseptic technique and correct breaches.
  • Handle small instruments, supplies, and specimens with fine motor skills.
  • Communicate effectively with the surgical team.
  • Prepare and maintain the sterile field.
  • Assist with draping and handling sharps and instruments.
  • Keep accurate counts of supplies and sponges.
  • Orient new staff to the OR role.
  • Stock supplies and equipment.
  • Provide on-call coverage as designated.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association)
  • Physical ability to lift/carry and push/pull up to 50 pounds

Preferred:

  • Certified Surgical Technologist
  • At least 2 years of current OR scrub technician experience
