Job summary

Medical City Plano, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking an RN in the Operating Room to evaluate patients pre-surgery and provide perioperative care. Responsibilities include patient education, IV therapy, site verification, and active participation in surgical safety protocols with a dynamic interdisciplinary team.

The role emphasizes evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and leadership to ensure safe, high-quality care.

Qualifications

• RN license required or must obtain licensure
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Associate Degree in Nursing or equivalent required

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery
• Provide patient and family education about the procedure and peri-operative process
• Prepare patients including IV therapy, preoperative medications and surgical site verification
• Participate in surgical site verification (briefing, time out, debriefing)
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care using evidence-based practices
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team
• Apply nursing process, critical thinking and leadership to ensure safe care
• Monitor patient condition and document changes during shift
• Educate patients and families about medical condition, treatment and follow-up
