Job summary

Rush University Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Materials Management staff member to ensure day-to-day availability of surgical supplies and equipment for assigned OR service lines. You will support sterile areas, restock cabinets, and coordinate with the OR team to meet nursing needs.

Under supervision, you will receive and verify deliveries, manage par levels, and assist in inventory control. Strong organizational skills and multitasking ability are essential in this fast-paced

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of Healthcare Materials Management, Sterile Processing, Purchasing, Distribution, or Receiving experience.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of Omnicell hardware/software functions.
  • Knowledge of Materials Management/Purchasing and Inventory Control processes.
  • Knowledge of surgical equipment and supplies.
  • Basic understanding of clinical terms and procedures.
  • Ability to multitask under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; good oral communication.

Responsibilities

  • Distribute surgical supplies and equipment to Omnicells, support rooms, and sterile areas in the OR.
  • Receive, unpack, and deliver items from vendors and off-site warehouses.
  • Verify shipments by counting and comparing with packing lists and delivery tickets.
  • Follow-up on back-ordered supplies with surgical buyers and AUDs.
  • Maintain predetermined par levels and manage department files (receipts, requisitions, tickets).
  • Interact professionally with physicians, nursing, purchasing, and delivery staff.
  • Ensure cleanliness and order in work areas; provide after-hours coverage when needed.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes and assist with problem-solving for POs and stock-outs.

Pay Range: $19.49 - $24.01 per hour

Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Manager of OR Materials Management is responsible for the day to day availability of supplies and equipment for assigned OR service lines/areas. Provides materials management support for surgical services. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Required Job Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Two years of Healthcare Materials Management, Sterile Processing, Purchasing, Distribution, or Receiving experience necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of Omnicell hardware/software functions.
  • Knowledge of Materials Management/Purchasing and Inventory Control processes.
  • Knowledge of surgical equipment and supplies.
  • Basic understanding of clinical terms and procedures.
  • Ability to handle multi-tasks simultaneously under pressure and strict deadlines to meet changing workload demands and priorities.
  • Superior organizational skills, with attention to detail and oral communication skills.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Experience with the Lawson ERP system (including the Mobile Supply Chain module).
Responsibilities

Responsible for effective distribution of surgical supplies and equipment to designated Omnicells, support rooms, re-stock cabinets, sterile areas and all appropriate arenas within the Operating Room.

Activities Will Also Include But Are Not Limited To
  • Receives, unpacks, and delivers surgical supplies and equipment ordered from outside vendors and off-site warehouse.
  • Reviews and verifies accuracy of shipments by counting and comparing packing lists with all receiving/delivery tickets for accuracy of materials receipt.
  • Performs basic contract administration by following up on back-ordered supplies with surgical buyers and notification to appropriate Assistant Unit Director (AUD) and/or service.
  • Assists appropriate management personnel in the maintenance of predetermined par levels of supplies.
  • Files all pick-tickets, purchase requisitions, and delivery tickets, in the departmental closed files.
  • Interacts with physicians, nursing, purchasing, delivery services, and other operating room personnel in a cordial and professional manner.
  • Must maintain environmental cleanliness and order in specific work areas
  • Must be able to provide after hour's coverage on heavy caseload days.
  • Must be available to work on weekends.
  • Willingly participates in quality improvement processes.
  • Ensures that order placement and delivery dates meet nursing needs.
  • Interacts with clinicians to problem solve issues regarding purchase orders, receipts, loaners, credits, substitutes and stock-outs.
  • Performs quarterly and fiscal year end physical inventories.
  • Provides assistance, guidance and backup for related personnel in the Materials Management department
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
