Overview

Under the supervision of the Surgical Materials Supply Director, with a dotted line to the Director of Perioperative Services, the Surgical Materials Coordinator is responsible for ordering and maintaining all implants, supplies, materials, instruments, equipment, and consignment items across all specialty areas. The coordinator collaborates with team members to verify procedures requiring special equipment, instruments, or supplies via personalized preference sheets in the computer system. They work as a team member within the facility and perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions
  • Audit OR charges for all surgical areas
  • Maintain and clean OR perpetual inventory system locations
  • Identify cost reduction initiatives and optimize supplies
  • Serve as the initial contact for sales representatives in the OR
  • Maintain effective communication with stakeholders and team members
  • Procure specialty items and implants for the OR
  • Manage OR consignment inventory
  • Ensure surgical supply availability
  • Follow customer service processes
  • Participate in initiatives to enhance revenue and reduce costs
  • Communicate effectively with staff, physicians, and vendors
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels and ensure compliance with purchasing agreements
  • Obtain vendor quotes for new and replacement equipment
  • Coordinate trials of new supplies and equipment with approval
  • Work with biomed to check in new equipment and repair broken items
  • Ensure new products are approved before entry into the facility
  • Procure non-stock and specialty items, including handling vendor returns
  • Monitor and manage implant, supply, material, instrument, and equipment inventories
  • Collaborate with vendors, physicians, and surgical teams for timely procurement
  • Participate in inventory counts and surgical procedure preparations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Accountability
  • Reports to: Surgical Materials Supply Director with dotted line to Director of Perioperative Services
  • Supervises: None
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate from Surgical Technology program or equivalent training
  • Minimum of one year relevant clinical or materials experience; OR experience preferred
  • Certifications: BLS required within 30 days if not currently certified
  • Skills: Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical functions
Physical Demands
  • Medium strength (lift, carry, push, pull 20-50 lbs)
  • Constant standing/walking
  • Frequent keyboard/dexterity activities
  • Effective verbal communication, good vision and hearing
Environmental Conditions

Low to moderate exposure to hazards, including infectious diseases, chemicals, sharps, and wet floors. Must wear PPE as needed. Potential for bodily injury due to lifting and pushing.
