Job summary

Methodist Hospital for Surgery in Addison, TX is seeking an experienced nurse leader to oversee the operations of the Operating Room and Sterile Processing.

  • Proficiency in managing conflict in stressful conditions.
  • Excel skills and Epic experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for hiring, scheduling, and evaluating performance of OR, Scheduling, and Sterile Processing Department staff.
  • Implements strategies to optimize surgeon and patient satisfaction and employee engagement.
  • Plans and coordinates with surgeons, vendors, and others to ensure proper staffing, equipment, instruments, and supplies are available for surgical cases.
  • Supervises procurement of equipment and supplies, including budgeting for capital equipment and submitting requisitions for instrument and capital purchases.
  • Coordinates with Biomed, Facilities Management, and vendors/contractors to assure medical equipment is maintained and repaired.
  • Ensures instruments are sterilized properly and sterile supplies are stored properly.
  • Reviews and submits data and reports that measure/monitor quality, efficiency, productivity, and utilization of the OR and Sterile Processing Departments.
  • Ensures staff maintain required licensure/certification and attend required orientation and training.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively intra- and interdepartmentally regarding surgery schedule and related needs.
  • Works with the Chief Nursing Officer to review and revise department policies and compare practices against standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Responsible for hiring, scheduling, and evaluating performance of OR, Scheduling, and Sterile Processing Department staff.
  • Implements strategies to optimize surgeon and patient satisfaction and employee engagement, promoting an environment of harmony, cooperation, teamwork and excellence.
  • Plans and coordinates with surgeons, vendors, and others to ensure the proper staffing, equipment, instruments, and supplies are available for surgical cases.
  • Supervises the procurement of equipment and supplies, including budgeting for capital equipment and submitting requisitions for instrument and capital purchases
  • Coordinates with Biomed, Facilities Management, and vendors/contractors to assure that medical equipment is maintained and repaired.
  • Ensures that instruments are sterilized properly and sterile instruments and supplies are stored properly.

  • Works closely with the Chief Nursing Officer to review and revise current department and facility policies, procedures, and orientation materials and review current practices against accreditation, regulatory, and professional organization standards and recommendations.
  • Delegates appropriately to staff and coaches effectively to improve individual and team performance.
  • Communicate with staff, peers, administration, physicians, patients and families in an open, direct, timely, tactful and honest manner.
