Job summary

Connecticut Children's seeks an Operating Room Attendant to maintain sterile and orderly OR suites between procedures. You will assist anesthesia staff, stock supplies, and transport equipment and specimens within the surgical environment.

Responsibilities include cleaning, positioning patients under supervision, and ensuring all equipment is ready for the next case, with additional duties as assigned. High school diploma required; BLS certification due within 30 days of hire.

• Experience in Environmental Services or Operating Room environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cleans Operating Rooms after each case and other areas as needed.
• Cleans Operating Rooms with special technique after infectious cases.
• Cleans pails and mops according to procedure.
• Cleans furniture and equipment after each case and prepares room for next case.
• Cleans stretchers/cribs after use and locates the appropriate transport outside of procedure rooms.
• Assists with lifting, moving, and positioning patients.
• Transports and maintains a record of specimens sent to the laboratory for analysis.
• Transports blood products per policy.
• Processes equipment through cleaning and storing.
• Checks and reports defective instruments and equipment.
• Reorders and restocks supplies in proper areas when delivered.
• May order and maintain stock supplies of linens, solutions, sets, sutures, needles, pharmacy supplies, etc.
• Maintains stationery and supply scrub areas.
• Fills soap dispensers and maintains supply of scrub brushes and masks as needed.
• Stocks linen supplies in the Operating Rooms and lounges.
• Cleans all cabinets in the work room areas.
• Sets up and cleans cast cart and assists with procedures.
• Goes on errands to other departments as needed.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Required

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

License and/or Certification Required

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 30-days of hire.

Education and/or Experience Preferred

• Experience: Two years of Environmental Services and/or Operating Room experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Maintains clean environment and equipment in the Operating Room area and orders and maintains supplies and equipment.
• Provides assistance and support to clinical staff as needed.
