Job summary

St. Charles Health System is seeking an Operating Room Assistant to maintain a sterile, orderly OR environment and to assist with patient and equipment transport.

You will help keep beds, tables, positioners, and supplies ready, while supporting OR staff in cleaning areas including pre-op and PACU. The role emphasizes patient safety, professional conduct, and adherence to organizational policies and Lean improvement principles.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• BLS/CPR certification required by hire date.
• Surgical Cleaning Technician Certification within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean environment in the Operating Rooms.
• Ensure beds, tables, positioners and supplies are available and maintained.
• Assist OR staff with cleaning ORs, offices, bathrooms, and common areas including pre-op and PACU.
• Provide support to maintain unit readiness and readiness of equipment and supplies.
• Deliver patient and caregiver services with professionalism and confidentiality.
• Adhere to VIP Lean continuous improvement principles and organizational policies.

Job description

The Operating Room Assistant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness in the operating rooms (OR). This position also provides assistance with transport of patients and transport of items throughout the hospital. In this role you will maintain, prepare and move equipment and supplies within the OR.

This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

Essential Functions And Duties

• Maintain a clean environment in the Operating Rooms.
• Ensure all beds, tables, positioners and supplies are available and maintained.
• Provide support to O.R. staff to consist of cleaning O.R.'s, offices, bathrooms, common areas, pre-op and PACU.
• Complete unit specific and annual CBL's and competencies on time.
• Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.
• Supports Value Improvement Practice (VIP- Lean) principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.
• Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.
• Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the organization's corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violation of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all organizational investigations and proceedings.
