Job summary

UCLA Health and David Geffen School of Medicine is seeking an Operating Room Assistant to support a fast-paced OR. You will move and transport patients, blood products, specimens, and equipment, ensure room readiness, restock supplies, and perform routine cleaning of soiled rooms.

You will also handle anesthesia support materials under supervision. The role emphasizes safe patient handling, coordination with a multidisciplinary team, and adherence to infection control and sterilization

Qualifications

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more on a frequent basis.
• Dexterity to operate operating room equipment.
• Strong communication to take directions and work with a multidisciplinary team.
• Knowledge of infection control and sterilization standards.

Responsibilities

• Move and transport patients, blood products, specimens, and equipment.
• Prepare and restock supplies; clean soiled rooms and restock areas.
• Maintain and prepare OR equipment; ensure room readiness.

Description

Are you interested in joining a dynamic, fast-paced environment? The incumbent will perform duties as an Operating Room Assistant to include: patient moving and transport, blood products, specimens, and equipment transport; equipment maintenance, room readiness, restocking supplies, cleaning soiled rooms/supplies, storing and distributing anesthesia support materials. Other duties include but are not limited to customer service and departmental efficiencies. The OR Assistant is under the direct supervision of the Clinical Support Manager and Supervisors. Assignments are given according to organizational goals.

Qualifications

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job: Ability to lift, carry, push or pull 50lbs. or more, constant (80-90% of the time)
• Dexterity to operate equipment
• Communication skills to take direction or instructions
• Ability to articulate with a diverse and multidisciplinary team
• Awareness of potential exposure to injury of hazardous materials
• Knowledge of disinfectants germicide and sterilant
• Knowledge of infection control, AORN, and AAMI standards related to job functions
• Knowledge of government regulations: JCAHO, OSHA, Waste Management
• Hospital Operating Room experience preferred
