Job summary

SACRAMENTO NATIVE AMERICAN HEALTH CENTER INC in Sacramento, CA, seeks an Optometry Medical Assistant (MA) Float to provide both clinical and administrative support to the Optometry Department and assist with Primary Care as needed. This role enhances operational flexibility and ensures coverage across medical pods.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Medical Assistant program or certification.
• Experience using NextGen or comparable electronic health record system.
• Bilingual preferred to better serve diverse patient populations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for vision examinations and document histories.
• Conduct pre-screening eye tests and measurements.
• Sanitize and maintain optometric equipment per protocol.
• Assist patients with frame selection, fit adjustments and minor repairs.
• Coordinate frame ordering and inventory counts.
• Review patient records for completeness before provider exams.
• Support optometrists with exam flow and assistance within scope.
• Follow California Board of Optometry guidelines for scope of practice.
• Float to Primary Care or other departments to provide rooming and intake.
• Collect vitals and document patient history in the EHR; assist with procedures.
• Participate in daily pod huddles and care delivery.
• Respond to patient inquiries via phone and email promptly.
